And it's not even her doing most of the action scenes, but her stunt double, whose face is digitally replaced with hers. She clearly trained hard to look physically convincing in the role, but actually performing the fight scenes is another matter entirely.
What they've done to Ryu and Ken is unforgivable, turning both of them into insecure, deconstructed men to satisfy the woke agenda. Ryu gets the worst treatment of all: they basically pull a "Jake Skywalker" on him, portraying him as a washed-up loser before completely betraying his character with the revelation of the dirty trick he played on Ken. It's comparable to that infamous scene in which Luke Skywalker considers murdering his own nephew in his sleep.
The gay references involving several characters are equally insufferable (something we already saw in
Masters of the Universe, which, despite all its problems, at least manages to salvage something from the wreckage). And Bison's portrayal as some sort of nerdy pervert is simply unbearable. For all its flaws, the original
Street Fighter movie actually did a decent job with Bison, largely thanks to late Raúl Juliá's professionalism and performance. I was so pissed off when I left the cinema yesterday that I downloaded the '94 anime movie as soon as I got home
I hope Callina Liang gets more opportunities to showcase her acting abilities in future projects (and to give us some more eye candy too lol). And if she struggles to land roles in Western productions, she could always try her luck in Chinese or Taiwanese ones, since she speaks fluent Mandarin, as we can hear in the scene where she comes across a hungover Ken.
