How are you ripping them?
I did it with a chrome plugin that got the audio and video streams separately and then combined them with ffmpeg to get the output.
Edit: also no VPN, no other shenanigans
Edit #2: maybe that's the key, ffmpeg creates a completely new file and encodes it, so technically it's a new file with any watermarks gone or so badly eroded that they are useless.
