Looking for assistance/suggestions on how to downscale a VR video to play smoother in 2D in Potplayer. I have the avidemux software but it's saying it will take 60 hours to convert a video to MPEG4 (from Google search).

Reason for scaling down is playing the VR video in it's original format often plays choppy and the sound doesn't align with the video. Smaller VR videos around 2-3 GB's play smooth and still have good quality.

Any assistance is appreciated

Just to share my experience with the same problem, here is what I do.

When I have a 4k/8k VR file that's over 10GB, and I wand to shrink it to about 5GB, I use the program HandBrake. It's free, easy to tweak, and it can use your NVidia GPU to process the file faster.

Download Handbrake, drag the file you want to convert into it, and there are some key options that you'll want to tweak:
- Summary Tab: Set Format to MP4. You can do an MKV if you want, but MP4s are easier read on lower power players with less stutters.

- Dimensions Tab: Resolution and Scaling, Set Resolution Limit to 2160p 4k Ultra HD. I try to keep my files in 4k, but if you need to drop it down to 1080p to reduce stutters, you can tweak it here.

- Filters Tab: All of these should be "Off". If any of these are on, it will not use your GPU to make faster conversions.

- Video Tab (Important!): Video Encoder should be "H.264 (NVEnc)" if you have an NVidia GPU. Otherwise use "H.264 (x264)". Framerate (FPS) should be "Same as Source". Quality should be "Avg Bitrate (kbps): 15000" This is where you can reduce the size and quality of the file. Feel free to reduce this to 10,000 and see how it looks to you, if the file still studders. You can look at the Properties/Details of the file you are converting, and reduce the bitrate by half if you're looking to maintain the resolution, but half the size.

- You don't need to touch the Audio, Subtitles, or Chapters tabs.

I hope you have a Nvidia card, I have a 5070 and it reduces an average 8k video to 4k 10kbs in about 30 min. Good luck, I hope this helps. Cheers!

thank you. I don't have a Nvidia gpu but an Intel one. thanks I'll give this a shot
