Idk. I'm a man, so I recognize and acknowledge the privilege I have simply by not having to worry about being raped like women do, and simultaneously I understand that I will never understand the perspective of a woman who has suffered that kind of violation. And perhaps because of that, I simply don't understand why anyone who has ever experienced that kind of crime in a somewhat civilized society like ours would ever keep silent rather than immediately reporting it. I understand that systems are corrupt and oftentimes don't lead to due punishments for perpetrators, such as what we're seeing with the Cornell case right now in fact, but at the same time, I'm tired of seeing SA reported years or even decades after the fact, not because of the women keeping silent for whatever reasons they have to justify it, but because such incredibly delayed reports of SA allow the men who commit these crimes to stay on the loose, free to commit the crime again, while also making people take serious allegations less seriously. Delayed accusations severely hurt the public perception of women who have experienced real violations, giving people a reason to take claims less seriously and cast them aside without proper investigation. It's all one big fucking shame.
