I've tried many other options; patreon-walled software, XBMC/Kodi, well organized File Explorer folders. Stash stands alone as the best porn organizer software to date. It's free, powerful, tons of scraper/plugins/third party support, support via discord/github is rich. Extremely customizable. Full setup can be dense, but knowledge base is great. Plugins available for Jellyfin, Kodi, FireTV.
You have Stash scan your folders with media, and scrape with various databases (stashdb for scenes, fansdb for OF, PMVstash, JAVdb). Instant organization of performers, studios, tags, photos.
Can't recommend enough!

Yeah honestly stash was a game changer for me plus with the Fansdb project it has made organizing my OF content so much easier.
 
Stash is by far the best porn organizer on the Earth at present. If you haven't tried it yet, you definitely should! I have been using stash and stash-vr plugin since early last year, and they completely changed my porn file management. Once you prepare properly (scan your files and assign info automatically / manually), stash will provide ultra-powerful searching / playing / managing functions to your video and image collection.
For example, you can open stash in two web browser windows, one for randomly playing videos tagged with "Big tits, MILF, Masturbation" released after 2020 with resolutions ranging from FHD to 4K, and the other for randomly slideshowing images tagged with "Hentai, Futanari, Ejaculation" in landscape orientation. You don't have to look for which directory the files are in. Stash will search the database, find all the files, and display them in your browser.
Stash's search function is highly flexible, allowing you to instantly create the playlist you have in mind and start playback right away. If you come across an unnecessary file during playback, you can set its rating to 1-star on the fly and delete all the 1-star files at once later. Stash can delete files from the browser without going through the messy OS file system. If you run stash on a NAS, you can do that from anytime, anywhere in your house (even from your smartphone while in bed!)
No other software would be able to satisfy the above use case. Of course, stash has a vast number of other usages, but I think a familiar, daily practical example would be most helpful information for those who have never used stash.

-3.Play them freely and check unneeded items while fapping.
These three steps are the perfect routine for organizing your collection. Such a smooth workflow is impossible with the OS file system and stand-alone video player / image viewer. I was having trouble managing a huge amount of files for long, but stash made it really comfortable. If stash supported audio / voice files (in fact, it's already in progress), the game would be totally over. Isn't it exciting?
 
I have videos in folders already on Windows File Explorer. How can I import these folders into Stash?
 
XBVR is specialized in VR content. If your interest is VR video-centric, it is an option. Basically XBVR is an organizer with a similar purpose to stash, but XBVR has a unique feature that stash does not: it automatically collects information on new releases from your chosen sites. So, XBVR can not only organize your collection, but also can be used as a wish list. I think that's a big advantage, but XBVR is not able to organize your collection of images and non-VR videos.
Some people would organize VR videos in XBVR and other media in stash. However, I personally prefer to use stash and stash-vr plugin because I want to organize my entire collection in a unified way. In terms of overall functionality and customizability, stash is far superior, I think. That doesn't mean I don't use XBVR. It is a great platform for information gathering and I use it just to make a VR video wish list.
 
Does anyone know if it's possible to integrate Stash and Tdarr somehow?
I'm thinking about re-encoding my collection to h.265 or even av1 to free up space on my hdd. But I'm afraid that will destroy everything that was already organized by Stash.
 
Stash has very rich documentation. I don't think I should write here what you can find out by reading the official guide (it's too huge.) So I'm going to provide some links to the most basic how to's.
You should try Installation and Getting started first. At this point, your files are just scanned and added to stash's local database so you can't enjoy any powerful benefits of stash yet. Then try Guide to Scraping. Scraping works with a web server called StashDB. StashDB is a huge database of ridiculous amount of videos created by other users. By accessing it, stash can automatically find metadata for your videos. (To enable scraping, you need to register an account for StashDB and set your own API key to stash. It's free.) Scraping allows you to add titles, tags, release dates, performer infos, cover images, and other metadata to your videos automatically in just a few clicks. Thanks to these metadata, you will be able to enjoy ultra-powerful file searching.
These scanning and scraping are the most basic uses of stash. After that, I recommend that you read and try the various sections of the official guide. If you have any questions, it's smoother to ask questions in the stash community. The FAQ page would also be helpful.
 
10/10 for the bait, but seriously it's the worst fucking app to organize anything:
- Trash UI and UX.
- Lack of keyboard only workflows.
- A degenerate like me needs to switch to predefined (or dynamically tagged (starring the video doesn't help)), multiple videos in a very short span. Stash or anything else doesn't have something like this.
- Lack of tabs for multiple views. I don't want to open multiple tabs in my browser.
- Where's the fucking kbar?
- No built-in file manager. I want everything from onecommander and a million other UX enhancements to create / manage files at the speed of thought. Again, all of it needs to be keyboard driven.
- No userscript to create the bridge between the desktop and the browser (via websockets). If I come across a video / page that I need scraped, I should just be able to do it right then and there. Alternatively, provide clipboard monitoring with an interface for management.
I can keep going but unless stack addresses the above, no true degenerate can take it seriously.
 
Wow. Thank you for reading my long post. You make good points. Certainly, all the complaints you make would be true. Indeed, stash's UI / UX is not so good, it can't compete at all with a full-fledged file manager, it is not a perfect application at all. No wonder some people describe it as garbage. Actually, I have the same frustration you do, and personally I have written my own userscripts for some of the features you mention, like switching playback videos very quickly by keyboard operation...etc.
I could write a mountain of complaints about stash too. I may have praised it a bit too much. However, in order to fulfill all the requirements you mentioned, we would have to launch a tremendous project. I think that it is realistically difficult to achieve. Since the perfect app will never be realized, we have to make compromises in reality. I really don't want to argue with others so I'll just honestly say "your criticism is valid." But even so, I personally still believe that among the many unusable software, stash is one of the most usable today. Even in the garbage, there is better garbage. It's a little sad that you call it "the worst fucking app"...
 
Just curious what do you use instead or do you just manually manage your files?
 
Manually, using i3 window manager (tiling). Basically, split into workspaces:

You can have unlimited workspaces. A tiling window manager is your best bet if you have a lot of media files / apps to cycle through rapidly. Been meaning to build a porn manager for quite a while. Haven't found the time yet.
 
Is this possible to run in a docker environment?
That's why Ive been using stash is due to it being hosted on my NAS. Looking for something I can easily watch the files I have on mobile and web from anywhere in the world.

Obviously, you'll have to create a custom Docker image for x11docker + manjaro i3 image.

If you already have your porn organized, I'd say go with the custom workflow using a tiling window manager. I haven't tried it over NAS so I don't know if or how well it works. You'd also want something like onecommander as a file manager.

It works similarly; scrape files for metadata, presented with official images, performers, tags.
I used to use xbvr side by side with stash, access via deo-vr. but stash has excellent third party plugins including stash-vr, which i use with herespherevr, so dont need xbvr at all now, and it's all in one platform.
 
Which Stash-box endpoints are you guys using? I'm signed up for fansdb, stashdb, theporndb, pmvstash but the library of 'non-studio' content isn't fantastic. Are there any others out there you would recommend?
