Question Passes Watermarks

I looked at it briefly a few days ago when I first heard about it. I don't think there's a way to get the unwatermarked images. So a watermark removal tool will need made. It seemed to be a simply overlaid pattern, not stretched to fit the image, not scaled up/down. So when zoomed in 100% the overlays basically all line up. Did not have enough sample images though. If you want to make it easier for someone to make a watermark remover, zip up a folder of a bunch of pictures and group them according to account or whatever might help a pattern emerge.
I can't even find the Passes category or anything to see a bunch of the images.

I cracked it! It may be a firefox only thing, I haven't used other browsers in a long time, but if you use the picture-in-picture popout menu, the watermark doesn't stick to the video, then you can record your screen from there. Passes images are also built as "videos", with the same workaround applying to them.

i got it to work but i was wondering if there was a way to download the source image from the video picture-in-picture

also when i try to take a snip of the picture in picture pop out the image turns black

What are you using to take a snip? I used the tool that comes up when I hit windows-shift-S and it worked fine.
Edit: Just to be clear, click on the image you want to open, so it becomes one of those gallery popup things, then right click on the image, select the picture-in-picture, and windows-shift-s to open the snipping tool on the PIP popup. I can confirm it still works on my side, no black images.

Interesting, I have no idea what might be causing that and have not yet run into that. Does it display at all before you take the screenshot and just turn black when being screenshotted (That might mean it's being detected somehow, I didn't think they could do that. Is your browser's tracking protection on?), or does the black happen even when not taking a screenshot? And does this happen on all images or just that one?

the picture in picture shows the passes image without a watermark and it turns black when i try to snip it, every pic ive tried it does it. Ill look in the settings to see if something is tracking it

If you're using Chrome, you can probably bypass this by disabling "Use graphics acceleration when available" in Settings > System. This worked for me with screenshots on Passes before.

To download videos without the watermark, use this extension: https://fetchv.net/. It seems to work on the Gallery page right now, probably in messages and on the wall too. Play the video then click the extension, select one of the two videos that appears (it seems not to matter which), then in the new tab, after the video loads, click the download icon.

it just downloads as a black video for me, i tried the recording button too but it also didnt work

Fetchv extension seems no longer to be working. I think they're using DRM on the videos now. Shame.

Hi, I got some photos from a passes account I want to share. But I'm not sure if they're watermarked or not. They look clean... but is the watermarking obvious?

Passes coats the whole thing in grayish watermark text, saying Passes and a code I believe to be unique to the user (seen it before so I assume it's the same thing here). If you're not sure if you see it, you don't have the watermark. They're not subtle.
Also as a side note, if you don't see it on the images at all does that mean the feature is optional and activated or deactivated by the account posting it? I had assumed it was on everything and put there by Passes.

I hope this is helpful to people, i haven't found this mentioned anywhere else in the forum. After trial and error and a lot of banging my head against the wall, I found that Firefox was the answer. After you open an image and right click to go to full screen to make the water mark dissappear, right click again and use Firefox's build in screenshot feature, for some reason when you do that the security feature that makes the screen blackout doesn't engage.I only have 1080p monitors, so I don't know if screenshoting on a larger desktop might create an image closer to or at the original resolution.
